Sauerland-Höhenflug long-distance hiking trail
The Sauerland Höhenflug has been a certified "Wanderbares Deutschland" long-distance hiking trail since 2013. Over almost 200 varied kilometers, it offers magnificent views and close-up nature experiences from the most beautiful perspective like no other - from way up high. The route between the starting points of Altena and Korbach in Hesse runs at altitudes of between 400 and 800 meters. If you cover the entire distance, you will easily leave four eight-hundred-meter peaks behind you. Another option is to hike from Altena to Hemer or Neuenrade and take the bus back. One thing is guaranteed: Only flying is better!
Circular hiking trails
Even when hiking, you can't get the topic of wire out of Altena's head. On the historical theme trail, you can follow in the footsteps of the wire makers. From Altena, you can either hike south to Lüdenscheid or north to Iserlohn or walk the entire 32 km in one direction. And if that's not enough, you can simply continue from Iserlohn on the "Sauerland Waldroute" quality hiking trail. There are also several geocaches hidden along the way.
