650 years of Altena
Altena received its charter of freedomon December 20, 1367. Since then, 650 years have passed, which were celebrated in a big way in the anniversary year.
This was the anniversary year 2017
- Ceremonial reopening of the historic Luther Church in March 2017.
- The colorful city festival attracted many visitors to the city center at the beginning of July. The colourful program was very popular with young and old alike.
- In mid-July, Altena's town guides took visitors back into the town's past with their themed tour "Altena since 1367".
- At the beginning of August, the motto for a whole weekend was "Altena - a town experiences the Middle Ages".
- The big anniversary festival attracted many Altena residents and visitors from out of town to the Lennepromenade with a colorful program over two days in September. The Lenne shone brightly during the evening fireworks display.
- The Christmas markets, the "Winter Spectacle at Altena Castle" on the first Advent and the "Christmas Market in Altena's City Center" on the second Advent, brought a festive and contemplative atmosphere.
- 20.12.2017 - A festive council meeting followed by a torchlight procession up to Altena Castle was a must on the birthday.
